Wang Yi Holds Talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs Damdin Tsogtbaatar of Mongolia

On December 4, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Beijing with Minister of Foreign Affairs Damdin Tsogtbaatar of Mongolia.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Mongolia are friendly neighboring countries connected by mountains and rivers. Since the establishment of the new government of the Mongolian People's Party, it has put its relations with China into a more prominent strategic position, sent a clear message on maintaining bilateral mutual trust and properly handling sensitive issues, and expressed a strong desire to deepen practical cooperation and achieve common development, which the Chinese side welcomes. China believes that China-Mongolia relations are bound to stand the test of respective domestic situations and international vicissitudes, always move forward along the correct direction, and continuously benefit the two countries and the two peoples.

Wang Yi pointed out that China appreciates Mongolia for reiterating its firm adherence to the one-China policy, and its willingness to practically respect China's core interests and major concerns on issues concerning Xizang, Xinjiang and Taiwan, so as to well safeguard the political foundation of relations between both countries. China will also respect Mongolia's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity as always, and the Mongolian people's choice of development path according to national conditions. The statement of the Mongolian side is very important, which has increased the mutual trust between the two sides. Trust is a ballast stone to ensure healthy and stable China-Mongolia relations, and also the most important political result of the visit of Mongolian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Damdin Tsogtbaatar expressed that the just-concluded 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) not long ago has outlined a blueprint for China's future development, announced that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, and proposed the important goal of promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, making important contributions to world development, and bringing important opportunities to the development of neighboring countries.

Damdin Tsogtbaatar noted that upholding good-neighborly and friendly relations as well as peaceful cooperation with China is always a priority direction of Mongolia's foreign policy. Mongolia unswervingly supports the one-China policy, and believes that Xizang and Taiwan are inalienable parts of the Chinese territory. Mongolia continuously strives to elevate bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership to a new stage on the basis of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and core interests. Mongolia hopes to forge bilateral relations into a model of exchanges for neighboring countries.

Both sides agreed to enhance exchanges at all levels, maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, and hold China-Mongolia Parliamentary Exchange Mechanism, China-Mongolia Inter-governmental Joint Commission on Economy, Trade, Science and Technology, and China-Mongolia Joint Committee on Mine and Connectivity Cooperation at an early date.

Both sides agreed to actively integrate China's "Belt and Road" initiative with Mongolia's "Prairie Road Development" initiative, promote the building of a cross-border economic cooperation zone, and initiate the feasibility research on a China-Mongolia free trade agreement. China will continue supporting the Mongolian side to overcome economic difficulties and speed up the implementation work of non-reimbursable assistance to Mongolia and the preferential export buyer's credit project.

The two sides agreed to actively carry out people-to-people and cultural exchanges in such areas as culture, education, science and technology, sports, tourism and youths, and to convene the first meeting of a Joint Committee on China-Mongolia People-to-People Exchanges as soon as possible.

The two sides agreed to push forward the construction of China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor, and dedicate to the overall revitalization and development of the region.
