Governor-General Patrick Allen and Prime Minister Andrew Holness of Jamaica Respectively Meet with Yang Jiechi

On September 11, 2017 local time, Governor-General Patrick Allen and Prime Minister Andrew Holness of Jamaica met respectively with visiting State Councilor Yang Jiechi in Kingston.

Yang Jiechi said that Jamaica is a country with significant influence in the Caribbean region, and one of the earliest Caribbean countries to establish the diplomatic relations with China as well as a sincere friend and a reliable partner of China. In recent years, China-Jamaica relations enjoy sound development momentum with cooperation in various fields yielding fruitful achievements. China appreciates that the Jamaican government’s adherence to the one-China policy and stands ready to, together with Jamaica, take the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations of the two countries this year as an opportunity to comprehensively deepen political mutual trust, continuously understand and support each other on issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns, earnestly promote mutually beneficial cooperation in economy and trade and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, jointly build the “Belt and Road” and intensify coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, so as to facilitate China-Jamaica friendly partnership of common development for constant new progresses. China is committed to establishing all-round cooperative partnership featuring mutual respect, fairness, mutual benefit and common development with Caribbean countries, and stands ready to deepen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields.

Patrick Allen and Andrew Holness expressed that Jamaica cherishes its traditional friendship with China and thanked China for the long-term support and assistance. Jamaica strictly follows the one-China policy and supports Caribbean countries to develop extensive relations with China. The economic and trade relations between Jamaica and China share mutual benefit and win-win results. The Jamaican side is willing to actively participate in the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” and further intensify exchanges and cooperation with China in trade, investment, infrastructure, people-to-people and cultural engagement and other sectors.

On the same day, Yang Jiechi also met with President of the People’s National Party Peter David Phillips of Jamaica.
