China and Indonesia Hold the Sixth Meeting of Dialogue Mechanism at Deputy Prime Minister Level

On August 21, 2017, the sixth meeting of China-Indonesia dialogue mechanism at deputy prime minister level was held in Beijing. State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto co-chaired the meeting.

Both sides said that they will promote bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership toward a deeper level and a broader area based on the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Joko Widodo. Yang Jiechi expressed that in recent years, China-Indonesia relations have seen rapid development. The two countries have maintained close high-level exchanges and actively integrated the “21st Century Maritime Silk Road” initiative with “Global Maritime Axis” idea, and achieved fruitful results from cooperation in various fields. As large developing countries in Asia, both China and Indonesia shoulder the heavy responsibility of safeguarding national security and boosting economic development, and share extensive common interests at bilateral, local and global levels. China is willing to enhance the docking of development strategies and deepen practical cooperation with Indonesia, so as to enable relations between the two countries to achieve more comprehensive development.

Wiranto expressed that Indonesia regards China as a strategic cooperative partner in the Asia-Pacific region and is ready to, together with China, continuously make joint efforts and deepen cooperation in various fields, so as to push bilateral relations for in-depth development.

Both sides agreed to constantly maintain high-level exchanges, intensify communication on major issues concerning bilateral relations, enhance the docking of development strategies and the “Belt and Road” cooperation, and deepen cooperation in such fields as defense, law enforcement, anti-terrorism, drug control, cyberspace, maritime affairs, and aerospace.

The two sides agreed to jointly maintain peace and stability in the South China Sea and the region, promote the continued and in-depth development of China-ASEAN relations and East Asia cooperation, and strengthen communication and coordination in international and regional multilateral mechanisms.

After the meeting, Yang Jiechi and Wiranto jointly witnessed the signing of the minutes.
