Wang Yi: Hope All Parties Make a Right Choice When Korean Peninsula Situation Is at a Critical Juncture

On August 6, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on the sideline of the series of Foreign Ministers' meetings on East Asia cooperation in Manila, the Philippines.

Wang Yi noted that the current situation on the Korean Peninsula is highly complicated and sensitive and China-DPRK relations have been affected. Wang Yi expounded on China's principled position on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and stressed that the situation is moving toward the tipping point of a crisis. Meanwhile, it is also a turning point of making decision and getting the peace talks back on the track. China urges the DPRK to stop engaging in activities against the UN Security Council resolutions and presses the US and the Republic of Korea to prevent the escalation of tensions. All parties should keep restrained, catch the positive signals sent by parties concerned to the outside and make a right choice that is responsible for their own people and regional peace.

Ri Yong Ho reiterated the position of the DPRK on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and expressed willingness to maintain communication on the issue with the Chinese side.
