Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev of Russia

On July 4, 2017 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev of Russia in Moscow.

Xi Jinping pointed out that at present, Russia’s economy is developing towards a positive direction, and its society remains stable. Against the situation of weak global economic growth and sluggish international trade and investment, China-Russia practical cooperation in economy, trade, investment and other fields continues to expand with fruitful outcomes. China has firm determination to develop cooperation with Russia, and is confident in jointly addressing global challenges with Russia. The two countries should stick to supporting each other, opening to each other and expanding cooperation, in a bid to create sound conditions for the common development and revitalization of both countries and inject strong impetus into world peace, stability and development.

Xi Jinping stressed that Russia is China’s important partner in the advancement of the “Belt and Road” construction. China-Russia practical cooperation enjoys great potential and broad prospects. Both sides should expand the scale of cooperation in economy, trade, investment, energy and other fields, implement major cooperation projects in manufacturing industry, strengthen cooperation in high-speed railway, and push forward the launch of the project of Moscow-Kazan high-speed railway at an early date. Both sides should deepen cooperation at local level, and give priority to the advancement of cooperation in such areas as cross-border infrastructure construction, resource development, modern agriculture and production capacity. The two sides should conduct cooperation in Arctic channel, jointly build the “Ice Silk Road”, well implement relevant connectivity projects, and expand exchanges and cooperation in education, culture, sports, tourism, media and other people-to-people and cultural fields, so as to enhance mutual understanding and traditional friendship.

Dmitry Medvedev warmly welcomed President Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia. Russia-China relations are at the best period in history, and bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination conforms to the interests of both peoples and is conducive to world peace and development. President Vladimir Putin recently attended the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing. The Russian side stands ready to, together with China, maintain close high-level exchanges, expand cooperation in trade, investment, finance, energy, agriculture, aircraft manufacturing, infrastructure, Arctic channel and other fields, and well implement relevant major cooperation projects. Russia actively commits to promoting bilateral cooperation and development at local level and enhancing people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
