Wang Yi Holds the Second China-Brazil Foreign Ministerial-level Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue with Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes of Brazil

On June 16, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held the second China-Brazil Foreign Ministerial-level Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue with Minister of Foreign Affairs Aloysio Nunes of Brazil in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that China and Brazil are each other's comprehensive strategic partner, with the two being respectively the largest developing countries and important emerging economies in the eastern and western hemisphere. China is willing to work with Brazil to actively carry out the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Michel Temer at G20 Hangzhou Summit last year to constantly deepen China-Brazil comprehensive strategic partnership.

Wang Yi noted that Brazil is among the first countries to recognize China's full market economy status, and has made clear expression recently that it will fulfil obligations under Article 15 of the Protocol on China’s Accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) which requires WTO member nations to stop using the surrogate country approach to conduct anti-dumping investigations on China. China appreciates the actions of the Brazilian side which display its responsible attitude that honours international rules. BRICS cooperation builds a platform for emerging economies and reflects the trend of global development and conforms to the trend towards multi-polarity. Maintaining membership unity, deepening practical cooperation and speaking with one voice are conducive to the further development of the BRICS mechanism and to the balance of world power, and they will be supported by the vast member of developing countries. China stands ready to work with the Brazilian side to ensure the complete success of the BRICS Summit in Xiamen. China will hold the first meeting of BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs on June 19 and make political preparation for the summit. All Ministers will exchange views and pool consensus on current major international and regional issues at the meeting.

Aloysio Nunes said that Brazil has always taken the relations with China as a priority in its diplomacy. Brazil will follow exactly the rules of international trade. The Brazilian side congratulated China on the fruitful results achieved at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Brazil is willing to expand cooperation with China in areas such as economy, trade, infrastructure, investment, financing and scientific and technological innovation, facilitate the exchange of personnel and keep closer coordination and cooperation in international affairs. The Brazilian side attaches great importance to BRICS cooperation, and regards it as an important mechanism and platform to promote the progress of multi-polarity and economic globalization. The country is willing to make contributions to BRICS cooperation. The Brazilian side will offer full support for China in hosting the BRICS Summit in Xiamen and will play an active role in promoting China's cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries.
