State Councilor Yang Jiechi Attends Second Meeting of Council of Cooperation Between Upper and Middle Reaches of Yangtze River and Volga Federal District

On June 16, 2017, State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Plenipotentiary Envoy of the President of Russia in the Volga Federal District Mikhail Babich co-chaired the second meeting of the Council of Cooperation between the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River and the Volga Federal District in Hefei.

Yang Jiechi said that China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination currently maintains a high-level development. Under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, the Yangtze River-Volga River mechanism has been working effectively with important fruits in practical cooperation and increasingly prominent radiation effect, playing a positive role in enriching the connotation of bilateral relations and promoting bilateral cooperation. He hoped that the two sides will seize the opportunity of the “Belt and Road” construction, take into consideration the actual needs of cooperation between the two regions, jointly well implement the preferential cooperation projects and continuously expand new areas of cooperation, so as to promote the development and prosperity of the two regions and benefit the people of both countries.

Mikhail Babich spoke highly of the positive progress in the regional cooperation between Volga Federal District and the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River. He said that Russia is willing to work with China to actively implement the consensus of leaders of the two countries and constantly promote regional cooperation between the two countries in fields such as economy, trade, transportation, tourism, culture, education and youth for new progress, so as to inject new vitality into bilateral relations.

At the meeting, Yang Jiechi and Mikhail Babich launched the website of the Council of Cooperation between the Yangtze River and Volga River, signed Meeting Minutes and the Protocol on the Emendation of the “Regulation of the Council of Cooperation Between the Upper and Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River and the Volga Federal District”, and witnessed the signing of a number of cooperation documents between the local governments of the two regions. After the meeting, the two sides jointly attended the closing ceremony of the fourth Yangtze and Volga Rivers Youth Forum.
