Wang Yi Meets with Minister of State for External Affairs Vijay Kumar Singh of India

On June 18, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Minister of State for External Affairs Vijay Kumar Singh of India, who was in China for the meeting of BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs.

Wang Yi expressed that at present, China-India relations enjoy a stable development in general. Not long ago, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a successful meeting in Astana, which enhances bilateral political mutual trust and charts the course for the further development of bilateral relations. China is willing to, together with India, well implement the important consensus reached by leaders of both states, strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in politics, economy, trade, people-to-people and cultural engagement, defense and other aspects, and in the meantime, properly handle and well deal with sensitive issues and differences existing in bilateral relations. Wang Yi welcomed the recent accession of India and Pakistan to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). As two major countries with important influence, China is willing to, together with India, actively enhance coordination and cooperation under such multilateral frameworks as the BRICS and the SCO, and jointly play a constructive role in peace and stability in the region and the world at large.

Vijay Kumar Singh expressed that both India and China are ancient civilizations and developing countries. Attaching great importance to developing its relations with China, India stands ready to, together with China, take the consensus reached by leaders of both countries as guidance, maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen practical cooperation in various fields, and properly handle differences and issues. India is willing to work with China to enhance coordination in multilateral fields and make due contributions to safeguarding the common interests of developing countries. The Indian side also stands ready to coordinate and cooperate with China to jointly well hold the meeting of BRICS Ministers of Foreign Affairs in Beijing and make good preparations for the BRICS Summit to be held in Xiamen in the second half of 2017.
