Yang Jiechi Meets with Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan of Singapore

On June 12, 2017, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met at Zhongnanhai with Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan of Singapore.

Yang Jiechi expressed that China attaches importance to China-Singapore relations. The two sides should maintain close communication, enhance political mutual trust, give play to respective advantages, deepen ad expand bilateral economic and trade cooperation, well manage cooperation in major projects, and jointly push forward the “Belt and Road” construction, so as to advance China-Singapore relations to march forward with the times. Both sides need to strengthen coordination and cooperation, boost China-ASEAN relations and cooperation in various fields, and speed up the negotiation progress of regional comprehensive economic partnership, in a bid to jointly promote regional peace, stability and development.

Vivian Balakrishnan said that Singapore is ready to work with China to enhance cooperation and jointly build the “Belt and Road”. Singapore stands ready to advance the development of China-ASEAN relations, integrate bilateral development strategies and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. Singapore is willing to make joint efforts with China to promote the negotiation progress of regional comprehensive economic partnership, so as to benefit people of all countries in this region.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
