Li Keqiang Meets with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka

On the afternoon of May 16, 2017, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of Sri Lanka, who was in China for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Li Keqiang expressed that China-Sri Lanka relations enjoy a sound development with steady advancement of bilateral cooperation in various fields. It is hoped that both sides could make use of respective comparative advantages to deepen cooperation in such fields as trade, investment, infrastructure construction and production capacity. China stands ready to steadily push forward the construction of such projects as the Colombo Port City, the Hambantota Port, logistics and industrial parks with Sri Lanka on the basis of market principles and business rules. It is hoped that Sri Lanka could create a sound law, policy, security and public opinion environment to this end.

Li Keqiang stressed that China and its surrounding countries are a community of common destiny. Strengthening China-Sri Lanka mutually beneficial cooperation and realizing common development not only benefit the two peoples, but also are conducive to making Asia become the new engine of world economy, and thus better maintain peace, stability and development in the region.

Ranil Wickremesinghe expressed that Sri Lanka-China relations have constantly made new progress with successive initiation of major cooperation projects. Sri Lanka stands ready to intensify collaboration with China, create a sound environment for Chinese enterprises to invest in the country, speed up the construction of the Colombo Port City and the Hambantota Port, enhance production capacity cooperation, and help with Sri Lanka's industrialization process and regional connectivity, in a bid to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

After the meeting, Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe jointly witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents covering economy, technology, investment and other areas.

State Councilor Yang Jing attended the meeting.
