Yang Jiechi Meets with UN Secretary General António Guterres

On May 15, 2017, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met at Zhongnanhai with Secretary General António Guterres of the UN, who was in China for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF).

Yang Jiechi appreciated the UN's support and participation in the "Belt and Road" initiative and the BRF, and expressed that the "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping aims at promoting all countries to achieve common development and prosperity, and building a community of common destiny for all mankind. China supports the UN in playing an important role in international affairs, and stands ready to deepen cooperation in various fields with the UN, in a bid to make greater contributions to the cause of world peace and development.

António Guterres congratulated on the complete success of the BRF. He said that the "Belt and Road" initiative is of great and far-reaching significance, and meanwhile, it highly conforms to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development promoted by the UN. Appreciating the Chinese side for its adherence to multilateralism, the UN is ready to carry out closer cooperation with China centering on the "Belt and Road" initiative.
