Wang Yi Holds Telephone Talks with Foreign Minister Gerry Brownlee of New Zealand

On May 8, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks with Foreign Minister Gerry Brownlee of New Zealand at request.

Wang Yi congratulated Gerry Brownlee on his assumption as Foreign Minister of New Zealand. Appreciating New Zealand for taking the lead among developed countries in signing the cooperation agreement on the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”, Wang Yi welcomes New Zealand’s senior officials to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China. China is willing to, together with New Zealand, advance negotiations on the upgrade of bilateral free trade agreement and jointly safeguard the global free trade system.

Gerry Brownlee expressed that attaching great importance to develop its relations with China, New Zealand expects to see the outcomes of negotiations on the upgrade of bilateral free trade agreement at an early date. Appreciating China’s positive and constructive role in dealing with the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue, the country stands ready to, together with China, enhance coordination and cooperation in coping with all kinds of challenges.
