Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai of Afghanistan

On May 3, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai of Afghanistan, who was in China for the attendance at the 2nd round of China-Afghanistan diplomatic consultation and China-Afghanistan counter-terrorism and security consultation.

Wang Yi noted that as an important neighbor of China, Afghanistan plays a unique role in China’s diplomacy with neighboring countries. China is willing to, together with Afghanistan, maintain high-level exchanges, expand bilateral all-round practical cooperation with the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” as the mainline, enhance counter-terrorism and security cooperation, and push China-Afghanistan strategic cooperative partnership for further development.

Hekmat Khalil Karzai thanked China for its precious support in Afghanistan’s peaceful reconstruction and reconciliation process. Afghanistan stands ready to take an active part in the construction of the “Belt and Road”, promote connectivity and common development in the two countries and the region, firmly fight against the East Turkistan Islamic Movement and other terrorist groups, and safeguard security and stability in both countries and the region.
