Wang Yi Meets with Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov of Russia
2017/04/28

On April 27, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was in the New York for the attendance at the open ministerial meeting on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue held by the UN Security Council, met with Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov of Russia.

Wang Yi expressed that enjoying a comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination, China and Russia maintain close communication and coordination in international and regional affairs. At present, the situation of the Korean Peninsula is facing risks of escalating tension that may even get out of control. China's proposal of the "dual-track approach" and the "suspension-for-suspension" initiative coincides with Russia's relevant proposals. Both sides could continuously maintain close communication in dealing with the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.

Both sides agreed that, under current situation, all parties should comprehensively and completely implement the UN Security Council resolutions concerning the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). On the one hand, all parties should take measures to curb the exploitation process of the DPRK's nuclear missile. On the other hand, all parties should increase efforts to facilitate peace talks so as to pull all parties back to the right track of dialogues and negotiations as soon as possible.
