Yang Jiechi and Deputy Prime Minister Hor Nam Hong of Cambodia Co-chair Fourth Meeting of China-Cambodia Intergovernmental Coordination Committee

On April 27, 2017 local time, the fourth meeting of the China-Cambodia Intergovernmental Coordination Committee was held in Phnom Penh and co-chaired by State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Deputy Prime Minister Hor Nam Hong of Cambodia. Both sides comprehensively reviewed the important progress achieved from bilateral cooperation in various fields since the third meeting of the committee, and made plans for bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the coming year.

Yang Jiechi expressed that over the past year, the successful mutual visits between President Xi Jinping and King Norodom Sihamoni and the three times meeting between Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Hun Sen showcased that bilateral high-level exchanges have become closer. In particular, President Xi Jinping’s successful visit to Cambodia charts the course for the development of bilateral relations. The two countries earnestly implemented the consensus reached by both leaders as well as the plans determined at the third meeting of the committee, pushing bilateral cooperation in all fields for fruitful outcomes. Attaching great importance to developing China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, China will firmly support Cambodia in choosing a development path that suits to its own national condition, and help the country safeguard stability, improve people’s livelihood and achieve development. The Chinese side is willing to make joint plans with Cambodia and elevate China-Cambodia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to new highs.

Hor Nam Hong noted that Cambodia-China relations have achieved prominent and new progress in the past year, and reached a new historical height. During President Xi Jinping’s visit to Cambodia, both countries signed multiple cooperation agreements including discussing the cooperation plan for jointly drawing up and promoting the “Belt and Road” construction, which further intensifies bilateral cooperation. Currently, with richer strategic connotation, Cambodia-China relations have witnessed more frequent high-level exchanges, more solid friendship between the two peoples and increasingly deepened exchanges and cooperation in various fields. To develop bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership is in line with the fundamental interests of the two countries. The Cambodian side thanks China for its long-term support and assistance to Cambodia’s economic and social development, and welcomes Chinese enterprises to participate in the country’s infrastructure and other cooperation projects. It is believed that Cambodia-China relations will certainly achieve greater development.

Both sides stressed that China-Cambodia relations are comprehensive and in-depth, and high-level contacts play an important leading role in bilateral relations. China welcomes Prime Minister Hun Sen’s visit to China and his attendance at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation this May. The two countries will actively coordinate and make good preparation for this.

Both sides agreed to speed up the alignment of development strategies, strengthen cooperation in such fields as production capacity, transportation, communication, agriculture, and water conservancy, expand bilateral trade, and realize the goal of expanding bilateral trade volume to 5 billion USD in 2017 as scheduled. The two countries should reinforce cooperation in defense, law enforcement and security, deepen cooperation in education, culture, tourism and other fields and enhance coordination and cooperation under the frameworks of the UN, China-ASEAN cooperation and other multilateral frameworks.

After the meeting, Yang Jiechi and Hor Nam Hong jointly met the press and attended the signing ceremony of meeting minutes.
