Wang Yi Exchanges Views with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson of UK on Korean Peninsula Nuclear Issue
2017/04/29

On April 28, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was in the New York for the attendance at the open ministerial meeting on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue held by the UN Security Council, met with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson of the UK, exchanging views on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue. Both sides agreed that at present, the situation of the Korean Peninsula faces escalated tension and it is likely to spiral out of control, and thus it is necessary for the UN Security Council to hold the ministerial meeting. All parties should adhere to the goal of denuclearization, strictly implement all the UN Security Council resolutions concerning the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), and curb the DPRK's nuclear and missile programs. Meanwhile, all parties should stay committed to dialogues and negotiations to push forward the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue to the path of peaceful resolution as soon as possible.
