Wang Yi: China Has Sufficient Reasons to Enhance Capability to Safeguard Oversea Interests
2017/04/27

On April 26, 2017 local time, when jointly meeting the press with Vice Chancellor and Foreign Minister of Germany, Foreign Minister Wang Yi was inquired by a German journalist about the intention of China’s launching of the first domestically-built aircraft carrier. Wang Yi expressed that China’s oversea interests, including personnel exchanges, have been extending the whole world. There are nearly 30,000 overseas-registered Chinese-funded enterprises and millions of Chinese nationals working and living overseas. Most freighters sailing in important international waterways are either carrying Chinese cargos or are related to China. Under this new situation, China has sufficient reasons to improve its capability for national defense, in a bid to effectively protect its constantly expanded legitimate rights and interests overseas, and make contributions to maintaining international and regional peace. Wang Yi stressed that what is clear and will remain unchanged is that China will continuously uphold a national defense policy that is defensive in nature. China will not and has no intention to seek expansion. What China seeks is a new model of international relations with win-win cooperation at the core, and China looks forward to building a community of shared future for mankind with various countries.
