Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran

On April 24, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran while attending the first Ministerial Conference of the Ancient Civilizations Forum in Athens.

Wang Yi said that the China-Iran comprehensive strategic partnership has been developing steadily, and the two heads of state have successfully exchanged visits. China and Iran have deepened bilateral cooperation in areas including economy, trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges, and maintained close communication and coordination in international and regional issues. Since Iran is an important country along the ancient Silk Road, China welcomes Iran's senior officials to attend high-level meetings concerning the "Belt and Road" initiative, and expand cooperation under the framework of the joint construction of the "Belt and Road". As members of the Ancient Civilizations Forum, China and Iran should strengthen cooperation, lead all parties to learn from the wisdom of ancient civilizations, and jointly promote world peace and development.

Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Iran views Iran-China relations from a strategic and long-term perspective. The exchange of visits between both heads of state has laid a solid foundation for developing bilateral strategic partnership. Iran welcomes and supports the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by the Chinese side and is willing to promote its development through the Ancient Civilizations Forum so as to achieve common development.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Syrian issue, the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue and other international and regional issues of common interests.
