Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of Greece Meets with Wang Yi

On April 24, 2017 local time, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of Greece met in Athens with Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was in Greece for an official visit and the attendance at the Ancient Civilizations Forum.

Alexis Tsipras noted that, he is glad to be invited to attend the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) in China. Greece is looking forward to building itself into an international transportation hub, which conforms to China's "Belt and Road" initiative. Piraeus Port Project is the first step of strategic docking between both sides, marking as a milestone. Greece is willing to constantly expand practical cooperation in economy, trade, travel, culture, transportation and other areas with China.

It is of great significance for Greece and China to jointly initiate the Ancient Civilization Forum. The communication and dialogues between countries with great cultural heritages can make positive contributions to peace and stability of the world.

Wang Yi welcomed Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to attend the BRF in China and jointly discuss mutual benefit and win-win results, and inject new impetus to China-Greece cooperation in various fields. Aside from economic success, Piraeus Port Project also has sound political and social effects. China is willing to work with Greece to build Piraeus Port into an important pivot for the construction of the "Belt and Road" and the China-Europe Land-Sea Express Route. 2017 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Greece. Both sides can take this as an opportunity to deepen political mutual trust, strengthen cooperation under the framework of the Ancient Civilization Forum, and open up a new situation of the comprehensive strategic partnership. It is believed that the EU will play a positive and constructive role in promoting China-EU relations.
