Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Juha Sipilä of Finland

On April 5, 2017 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Juha Sipilä of Finland in Helsinki.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Finland enjoy traditional friendship. The two countries enjoy mutual respect and trust in politics, complementarity and mutual benefit in economy, mutual learning in culture, and a steady and smooth development in bilateral relations. In recent years, both sides have conducted frequent high-level exchanges, achieved fruitful outcomes in practical cooperation, witnessed vibrant people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and maintained sound communication on international affairs. The development concepts and strategies of China and Finland highly match with one another, and bilateral mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation enjoy broad prospects. China is willing to make joint efforts with Finland to promote practical cooperation in major fields covering scientific and technological innovation, energy conservation, environment protection, Arctic affairs, tourism, and sports.

Xi Jinping pointed out that under the background of sluggish global economic recovery, China's economy has maintained a sound development momentum. At present, China has been deepening supply-side structural reform. We have the confidence and capability to maintain sustainable and healthy economic development, create more opportunities and bring more benefits to all countries in the world, including Finland.

Xi Jinping pointed out that the development of Europe is conducive to promoting world peace and stability. The Chinese side hopes Europe could be prosperous, stable and open, and expects the EU could constantly develop itself. It is hoped that Finland could play a more positive role in propelling the development of China-EU relations. Finland is the rotating presidency of the Nordic Council this year, and China is willing to, together with Finland, jointly push China-Nordic cooperation for more fruitful outcomes.

Juha Sipilä expressed that the development of Finland-China relations is satisfying. The Finnish side appreciated China's positive role in global affairs and highly appraised President Xi Jinping's important speech at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos early this year. Finland stands ready to, together with China, expand cooperation in investment, environment, clean technologies, tourism, winter sports, education, Arctic affairs and other fields, as well as cooperation under the "Belt and Road" framework. Finland supports the development of EU-China relations, and is willing to push Nordic-China cooperation for constant and new outcomes.

Wang Huning, Wang Yang, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended the meeting.
