2017/03/27

On March 27, 2017, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal of Nepal.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China-Nepal friendly cooperation conforms to the fundamental interests of the two countries and two peoples. At present, China-Nepal relations enjoy an in-depth development. The two countries maintain close exchanges between governments, political parties and at all levels, and steadily promote cooperation in such areas as connectivity, post-disaster reconstruction, infrastructure and people-to-people and cultural exchanges. I am happy about this. Both sides should continuously make joint efforts to safeguard the positive momentum of China-Nepal relations and open up a new situation for bilateral friendly cooperation.

Xi Jinping stressed that the two sides should continuously enhance political mutual trust and exchanges at all levels, and support each other on major issues concerning each side's core interests. Both countries should firmly boost mutually beneficial cooperation, and take the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" as an opportunity to steadily promote cooperation in various fields including connectivity, free trade arrangement, agriculture, production capacity, energy and post-disaster reconstruction, expand two-way investment and trade, and push bilateral trade for balanced and sustainable development. Cooperation in law enforcement security should be deepened. The Chinese side is willing to, together with Nepal, enhance cooperation within the UN and other multilateral agencies to coordinate the stance on issues relating climate change and sustainable development, so as to safeguard common interests.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal expressed that China is a friendly neighboring country of Nepal, and the Nepalese side sincerely thanks China for its long-term support especially China’s valuable assistance to post-disaster reconstruction in Nepal. In recent years, Nepal-China relations have achieved new progress. Nepal firmly adheres to the one-China policy and will not allow any forces to conduct anti-China activities in Nepal's territory. The country supports the "Belt and Road" initiative, and is willing to work with China to actively expand cooperation in such areas as trade, investment, transportation, infrastructure, tourism and aviation, as well as intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to better benefit the two peoples. Appreciating China's important and positive role in international affairs, Nepal is ready to carry out close coordination and cooperation with China in international and regional affairs.
