Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Dame Meg Taylor

On March 21, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum Dame Meg Taylor, who was in China for the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference.

Wang Yi welcomed Dame Meg Taylor’s visit to China and expressed that attaching importance to developing relations with the forum and its member states, China is willing to continue to, under the guidance of the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and leaders of the Pacific Islands countries during their meetings in 2014, strengthen friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation, consolidate and develop a bilateral strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development, so as to make unremitting efforts to advance stability, development and prosperity in the Pacific Islands countries.

Dame Meg Taylor thanked China for providing the forum and its member states with precious support for a long time, spoke highly of China’s international influence and the “Belt and Road” initiative, and expressed that the forum cherishes its partnership with China, and is willing to make joint efforts with China to push bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields for constant and in-depth development.
