Wang Yi: Mongolia is an Important Cooperation Partner in the Process of the Joint Construction of the "Belt and Road"

On February 20, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Tsend Munkh-Orgil of Mongolia jointly met the press after holding talks in Beijing.

In response to questions on the significance of the integration between China's "Belt and Road" initiative and Mongolia's "Prairie Road" strategy, Wang Yi said that the "Belt and Road" initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping aims to, in the principle of wide consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits, push forward countries and relevant regions along the "Belt and Road" to achieve common development and common prosperity. The "Belt and Road" initiative has become the most popular international cooperation concept in the current world, and it is steadily moving forward. An important way for China to implement the "Belt and Road" initiative is to advance the alignment of development strategies of all countries so as to expand new cooperation fields, open up new cooperation prospects and realize mutual benefit and win-win results from it.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Mongolia have reached consensus and will sign the inter-governmental document on the integration between the "Belt and Road" initiative and Mongolia's "Prairie Road" strategy at an early date. This indicates that Mongolia will become an important cooperation partner in the process of the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", and also indicates that China-Mongolia cooperation will open up new prospects, which is not only conducive to Mongolia's economic and social development, but also is a favorable thing for overall regional cooperation.

Wang Yi also noted that China, Mongolia and Russia are important neighbors to each other. It totally conforms to the common interests of people of the three countries to strengthen trilateral cooperation. The three sides have reached consensus on the construction of the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor and signed an outline regarding this. The economic corridor will be an important part of the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" among the three sides. China is willing to make joint efforts with Mongolia and Russia to earnestly implement the outline, and build the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor into a bond of friendship, cooperation and win-win results so as to benefit the three peoples and promote regional prosperity.
