Wang Yi: Transform Consensus into Actions and Well Implement the Agenda for Sustainable Development
2017/02/17

On February 16, 2017, Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the first session of the G20 Foreign Ministers' meeting in Bonn, Germany. Regarding the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Wang Yi said that the Hangzhou Summit held in 2016 put development issues in the core position of the G20 agenda, and adopted the G20 Action Plan for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Now the action plan should be well implemented. The first is to take the lead in integrating the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into our own development strategies; the second is to continue to put development issues in the core position of the G20 agenda, and take development issues as an important content of the macroeconomic policy coordination; the third is to adhere to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities. All parties should continue to take the lead in implementing the Paris Agreement as well.

Wang Yi underlined that China has incorporated the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development into its national development plans and took the lead in formulating and releasing its national plan in 2016. We put poverty reduction as a top priority. With more than 10 million people lifted out of poverty last year, the main objective of the agenda for sustainable development will be achieved ahead of schedule. China is vigorously promoting the "Belt and Road" construction with the purpose of strengthening the docking of development strategies and policies with other countries, conducting mutually beneficial cooperation and achieving common development. China has also set up the China-UN peace and development fund, including a sub-fund for implementing the 2030 agenda, expecting it to give play to its due effect.
