Wang Yi Meets with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan

On February 18, 2017 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Wang Yi firstly conveyed warm greetings from President Xi Jinping to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani also asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere regards to President Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders.

Both sides spoke positively of the long-term development achieved from China-Afghanistan relations, and believed that bilateral relations enjoy a solid foundation and right development direction. Wang Yi said that China appreciates the firm attitude adopted by the Afghan government in its fight against the extreme terrorist group of the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), supports Afghanistan to promote its reconciliation process, and is willing to constantly deepen bilateral cooperation. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani thanked China for supporting and helping Afghanistan's reconstruction cause and appreciated China's positive efforts in boosting Afghanistan's reconciliation process. Mohammad Ashraf Ghani stressed that Afghanistan firmly opposes terrorism and will fight the ETIM terrorist force resolutely. He also expressed his willingness to strengthen cooperation with China in connectivity and other areas under the "Belt and Road" framework.
