Wang Yi: Jointly Build the "Belt and Road", and Advance Regional Cooperation
2017/02/18

On February 17, 2017 local time, in his keynote speech at the 53rd Munich Security Conference, Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed that facts have proven that regional cooperation is an effective way to advance world development. China has always been a firm advocator and promoter of regional cooperation. In 2013, President Xi Jinping officially proposed the major initiative of jointly building the “Belt and Road”. This is so far the largest public product China has offered to the international community, as well as the most popular international cooperation initiative in the world. The purpose is to achieve advantage complementarities in all countries, narrow the regional development gap, and speed up the regional integration process through policy communication, infrastructure connectivity, unimpeded trade, financial integration as well as people-to-people bonds so that Eurasian countries and other related areas can achieve common development and common prosperity. Since the proposal of the “Belt and Road” initiative three years ago, the construction progress and results have gone beyond expectations. It has been actively responded and supported by more than 100 countries and international organizations. In May this year, China will host the International Cooperation Summit Forum on the “Belt and Road” Initiative in Beijing, which will be another important contribution made by China to global cooperation and global governance. It is believed that this forum will certainly be a success and let the “Belt and Road” better benefit the world.
