Wang Yi: Cultivate Lancang-Mekong Culture and Establish the LMC Corridor
2016/12/23

On December 23, 2016, after attending the second Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Siem Reap, Cambodia, Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Chinese and foreign journalists that the Foreign Ministers' Meeting this time has further clarified the development direction of the LMC. China is willing to, together with other five countries, stick to the LMC's cooperation theme of Shared River, Shared Future, give play to the six countries' unique advantages of geographic proximity, people-to-people and cultural similarity and economic complementarity, gradually cultivate a Lancang-Mekong culture featuring equal treatment, sincerity, mutual assistance and family-like closeness and create a LMC corridor based on the principles of mutual consultation, common contribution and shared benefits, so as to constantly stride toward the establishment of a community of common destiny for all countries along the Lancang-Mekong river.

Wang Yi stressed that other than benefiting the sub-region, the LMC is also conducive to providing new impetus for China-ASEAN cooperation, speeding up the building of the ASEAN community, the regional integration process, obtaining achievements from the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" as soon as possible and making contributions to implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It is believed that the LMC will certainly be welcomed and supported by the international community, especially countries from the local region.
