Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR Leung Chun-ying

On December 21, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Leung Chun-ying. Both sides exchanged views on the SAR's expectation to get support from the Foreign Ministry to participate in the "Belt and Road" construction and expand external exchanges.

Leung Chun-ying said that as an international city, Hong Kong has rich experience in finance, commerce, trade, management, legal services and other professional services, which can complement the mainland's advantages in the "Belt and Road" construction. The SAR hopes that the Foreign Ministry could continue to coordinate with and support the SAR in relevant external exchanges.

Wang Yi expressed that Hong Kong has its advantages in location, professionalism and other aspects. Participating in the "Belt and Road" construction can not only contribute to the national development strategy, but offer impetus to Hong Kong's own development. It is believed that Hong Kong will certainly give play to its unique and positive role in the "Belt and Road" construction. The Foreign Ministry will support Hong Kong to participate in the "Belt and Road" construction at an international level and expand its external cooperation and exchanges.
