Foreign Minister Wang Yi Holds Telephone Talks with Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault of France

On December 15, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks with Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault of France at request.

Wang Yi said that China views France as an important strategic cooperative partner and is willing to work with France to continually respect and accommodate each other's core interests, and implement all the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries so as to promote the in-depth development of China-France comprehensive strategic partnership. Appreciating Jean-Marc Ayrault's unequivocal position on the one-China principle in his recent remarks, Wang Yi stressed that the Taiwan issue involves the sovereignty and territorial integrity of China. The one-China principle is the prerequisite and foundation for other countries to develop their relations with China, and no country can be an exception on this vital issue of right or wrong.

Jean-Marc Ayrault reiterated that France-China relations are based on mutual trust and mutual benefit. The one-China principle concerns international and regional peace and stability, to which France attaches great importance and will continue to play a positive role in this regard.

Both sides also exchanged views on how to further deepen bilateral cooperation in nuclear energy.
