Wang Yi Meets with President Johann N. Schneider-Ammann of the Swiss Confederation

On December 12, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with President Johann N. Schneider-Ammann of the Swiss Confederation in Berne, Switzerland.

Wang Yi first conveyed warm regards from President Xi Jinping to Johann N. Schneider-Ammann. Wang Yi said that this April, you paid a successful state visit to China, during which both sides decided to establish China-Switzerland innovative strategic partnership. It is the first time for China to establish a partnership featuring innovation with other countries, which not only elevates China-Switzerland relations to a new high, but exerts positive demonstration effects to other countries. China is satisfied with the current situation of China-Switzerland relations and has full confidence in its future. Bilateral relations have become a model of peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation for countries with different social systems, development stages and territorial sizes. In the next phase, China is willing to strengthen high-level exchanges and deepen all-round cooperation in various fields with Switzerland. The two countries should give play to respective advantages and put China-Switzerland innovative strategic partnership into practice so as to provide new impetus for restoring world economic growth. Both sides should jointly voice opposition against trade protectionism, actively discuss on an upgraded version of China-Switzerland Free Trade Agreement, and safeguard the world free trade system.

Johann N. Schneider-Ammann asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping and said that Switzerland attaches great importance to China and has benefited greatly from China's economic development. Maintaining a sound relationship, Switzerland and China carry out favorable dialogues in various fields, and yield remarkable achievements from cooperation. The visit to China this April has left a deep impression on him. It is hoped that both sides will effectively implement the innovative strategic partnership and jointly safeguard the free trade system so as to push Switzerland-China relations for more positive results in such fields as economy, trade, finance, energy, tourism and culture.
