Wang Yi Meets with WHO Director-General Margaret Chan

On December 11, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Geneva of Switzerland with Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) Margaret Chan.

Wang Yi congratulated on the success of the 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion in Shanghai lately. Wang Yi expressed that currently, the status of public health has been remarkably lifted in international security agenda. Attaching high importance to global health cause and the WHO, the Chinese government always actively supports the work of the WHO. China will continuously support and cooperate with the WHO to effectively deal with challenges in the global health area, elevate the core and leading role of the WHO in global health governance and show China's commitment and contributions to the development of global health cause and international cooperation in this regard.

Margaret Chan thanked the Chinese government for supporting the successful holding of the 9th Global Conference on Health Promotion, and said that it is an important step towards the implementation of goals in the health area of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. China has made prominent contributions and become a model to global poverty reduction and health cause. It is believed that China will make greater contributions to global public health and sustainable development in the future. The WHO hopes to enhance cooperation in the health area with China within the "Belt and Road" framework.
