Xi Jinping Meets with Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith of Laos

On December 1, 2016, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith of Laos.

Xi Jinping pointed out that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Laos 55 years ago, bilateral traditional friendship has gradually taken deeper roots in the hearts of people, and cooperation in various fields has enjoyed comprehensive and rapid development and yielded fruitful results, which not only brings tangible benefits to both peoples, but makes important contributions to regional peace, stability and prosperity. China always regards Laos as a good neighbor, friend, comrade and partner, and is ready to jointly facilitate China-Laos comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation to continuously develop, and forge an unbreakable China-Laos community of shared destiny with Laos.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Laos should consolidate the sound development momentum of bilateral relations and expand comprehensive strategic cooperation. Leaders of both parties and countries need to conduct closer contact through various ways, maintain strategic communication and timely exchange views on major issues. Both parties should enhance experience exchanges on party governance and administration, and enhance mutual learning from each other. China and Laos should reinforce the docking of development strategies, jointly promote the "Belt and Road" construction and strengthen cooperation in such areas as production capacity investment, energy exploration, economic cooperation park and infrastructure building. China is ready to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Laos in education, culture, tourism, law enforcement, security and other areas, and continuously enhance bilateral traditional friendship. China stands ready to continue to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Laos in multilateral frameworks such as China-ASEAN cooperation, the Lancang-Mekong cooperation and the UN, and continuously share mutual understanding and support.

Thongloun Sisoulith warmly congratulated China on the successful convening of the sixth plenary session of the 18th Communist Party of China Central Committee, and expressed that the relationship between both countries has rapidly developed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Laos and China 55 years ago with fruitful results from cooperation in various fields such as economy, trade, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Laos thanks China for the support to its development, construction and serving as the rotating presidency of the ASEAN. Laos actively devotes itself to enhancing communication and cooperation between both parties and countries, and regards China as an important force for maintaining regional peace and stability. The Lao side stands ready to intensify communication and coordination in international and regional affairs with China, so as to continuously promote the in-depth development of ASEAN-China relations.
