Wang Yi Meets with Chairman of the Peace Commission Tin Myo Win of Myanmar

On November 29, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with the visiting delegation led by Chairman of the Peace Commission Tin Myo Win of Myanmar.

Wang Yi said that China supports Myanmar’s peace process and supports Myanmar to carry forward the Panglong Spirit with peaceful negotiation and consultation as well as national unity and autonomy as connotation to achieve domestic reconciliation at an early date. On the premise of non-interference in the internal affairs of Myanmar, China will play a constructive role to this end in accordance with Myanmar's will. Wang Yi expressed China’s concerns over the current situation in North Myanmar, saying that all parties should stop military actions and resolve their differences through negotiation. China and Myanmar should give full play to bilateral high-level consultations on diplomacy and national defense and other mechanisms and jointly safeguard peace and stability in the border areas between China and Myanmar.

Tin Myo Win briefed the update on Myanmar’s peace process and expressed that Myanmar will commit to steadily pushing forward peace in the country. Myanmar attaches great importance to China's concerns and is willing to make efforts to ease the situation in North Myanmar. It is hoped that China will continue to offer support and help to Myanmar.

Tin Myo Win and his delegation are visiting China at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They met and held talks with Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin and Special Envoy on Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Sun Guoxiang respectively before the meeting.
