Xi Jinping Meets with President Vladimir Putin of Russia

On November 19, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Lima with President Vladimir Putin of Russia.

Xi Jinping stressed that since this year, China and Russia have strengthened all-round strategic coordination centering on celebrating the 15th anniversary of the signing of China-Russia Treaty of Good Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation as well as the 20th anniversary of the establishment of China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination, which has not only boosted the common development and prosperity of both countries, but strengthened the force of world peace and justice. In the coming new year, China is willing to, together with Russia, maintain the momentum of close high-level exchanges, increase mutual support, consolidate political and strategic mutual trust, launch cooperation in the docking between both countries' development strategies as well as between the "Belt and Road" construction and the construction of the Eurasian Economic Union, well host China-Russia Media Exchange Year and other key people-to-people and cultural exchange activities, enhance coordination and cooperation in international affairs and promote world peace and stability.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Russia is an important member of the APEC. Both sides should deepen cooperation within the APEC framework, earnestly implement the important consensus reached during APEC summits in recent years, including the Beijing Summit, deeply accelerate the progress of the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific and push the Lima Summit for a success, so that the APEC can make greater contributions to the economic growth of the Asia-Pacific region and world.

Vladimir Putin noted that it is a pleasure to meet with President Xi Jinping again. The high-level Russia-China relationship is vital to world peace and stability and both sides should maintain close high-level exchanges. At present, Russia-China economic and trade relations enjoy a sound development momentum and cooperation in high-tech and other areas have yielded positive outcomes. The Russian side looks forward to jointly stepping up cooperation in the docking between the construction of the Eurasian Economic Union and the "Belt and Road" construction. Both countries should enhance coordination and cooperation within the APEC and in other multilateral affairs.

Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of common concern. Both sides agreed to safeguard peace and security in Northeast Asia, Central Asia and other neighboring regions of both countries.

Wang Huning, Li Zhanshu, Yang Jiechi and others attended the meeting.
