2016/11/15

On November 14, 2016 local time, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım of Turkey met in Ankara with Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Binali Yıldırım expressed that Turkey and China have recently conducted frequent high-level mutual visits, which is of positive significance in promoting the further development of bilateral relations. Both countries are representatives of the eastern civilization, and the ancient Silk Road has witnessed friendly exchanges between the two nations in history. At present, China is promoting the joint construction of the "Belt and Road” initiative and Turkey is devoted to building the “Middle Corridor”. It is hoped that both sides could tap the potential, enhance economic and trade cooperation, speed up the docking of strategies and boost the construction of the East-West High-speed Railway, so as to make it the new Silk Road of bilateral friendship in the new period. Turkey is willing to, together with China, strengthen cooperation in security and anti-terrorism, support each other's efforts in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and stability and never allow events that could damage the other country's national security in its own territory.

Wang Yi expressed that both China and Turkey are eastern countries with ancient civilizations, major developing countries and representative emerging economies. At present, both countries are focusing on national development and revitalization, and bilateral cooperation in various fields enjoys huge potential and space. China welcomes Turkey to actively participate in the "Belt and Road" construction, and regards Turkey as an important cooperation partner during the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative. The Chinese side is ready to enhance the docking between the "Belt and Road" construction and Turkey's "Middle Corridor" initiative, and boost practical cooperation in infrastructure, including the East-West High-speed Railway, production capacity, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and other areas. Strengthening bilateral cooperation in security and anti-terrorism contributes to increasing mutual trust and provides a more firm foundation for expanding cooperation in various areas. China appreciates Turkey’s commitment of not allowing any event that could undermine China's security interests within its territory, and hopes that Turkey will continue to provide strong collaboration to the Chinese side in fighting against the East Turkistan Islamic Movement terrorism force and managing the "Eastern Turkistan" anti-China separatist force.
