Wang Yi Pays Official Visit to Turkey
2016/11/15

On November 14, 2016 local time, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Prime Minister Binali Yildirim of Turkey met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi respectively in Ankara.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan noted that he is glad to see that the consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and him during their meeting is being effectively implemented. Attaching importance to developing its relations with China, the Turkish side hopes to maintain high-level mutual visits, handle the issues emerged from bilateral cooperation in the spirit of strategic cooperation, advance cooperation in key projects such as the East-West High-speed Railway, integrate the “Belt and Road” construction with the “Middle Corridor” initiative, strengthen cooperation in such fields as tourism, culture and education, deepen cooperation in security, law enforcement and counter-terrorism and continuously increase mutual support in each other’s efforts in safeguarding national sovereignty, security and stability.

Binali Yildirim said that frequent high-level mutual visits between Turkey and China play a positive role in boosting bilateral relations. It is hoped that both sides can tap potential, reinforce cooperation in economy and trade, accelerate the docking of strategies and build the East-West High-speed Railway into a new Silk Road for Turkey-China friendship in the new era.

Wang Yi expressed that my visit this time is to implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and launch the China-Turkey foreign ministers’ consultation mechanism. Valuing its relations with Turkey, China is willing to, together with Turkey, maintain high-level exchanges and strategic communication, uphold the spirit of the ancient Silk Road, jointly build the “Belt and Road” initiative and make new contributions to promoting respective national development, revitalizing the Eurasian continent and advancing human civilization. Both sides should speed up the alignment between the “Belt and Road” construction and the “Middle Corridor” construction, constantly explore new areas for cooperation during this process and exploit new cooperation potential. The two countries should also deepen cooperation in security and counter-terrorism and enhance strategic mutual trust, so as to clear the way for bilateral all-round cooperation.

On the same day, Wang Yi laid a wreath at the tomb of Turkey’s founding father.
