Wang Yi Pays Official Visit to Uzbekistan

On November 12, 2016 local time, Acting President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan met in Tashkent with Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev thanked Chinese leaders for their firm support to Uzbekistan in critical moments, which fully demonstrates the high degree of political mutual trust between Uzbekistan and China. Uzbekistan will continue to follow a development path suitable to its own national conditions and support China to safeguard its core interests and major concerns, as well as crack down on the "three evil forces". Uzbekistan is willing to take the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” initiative as an opportunity to further consolidate and develop Uzbekistan-China comprehensive strategic partnership.

Wang Yi said that Uzbekistan will enter a new stage of continuing the past and opening up the future after the general election. Next year coincides with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of China-Uzbekistan diplomatic relations and bilateral relations will enter a new transitional period as well. At this critical historic juncture, China is ready to fully implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state this June in Tashkent as well as increase mutual support and strategic docking as directed by the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” initiative, so as to promote China-Uzbekistan comprehensive strategic partnership to achieve more results in the new period.

On the same day, Wang Yi went to Samarkand to pay tribute to founding President Islam Karimov of Uzbekistan and held talks with Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Komilov of Uzbekistan.
