Zhang Gaoli and President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines Jointly Attend China-Philippines Trade and Investment Forum

On October 20, 2016, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli jointly attended the China-Philippines Trade and Investment Forum under the theme of "New Chapter, New Vitality and New Development" at the Great Hall of the People with President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines, who was paying a state visit to China.

Zhang Gaoli expressed that during their fruitful talks, President Xi Jinping and President Rodrigo Duterte have reached important consensus on achieving the healthy and stable development of China-Philippines relations. The two heads of state witnessed the signing of a series of cooperation agreements. Premier Li Keqiang met with President Rodrigo Duterte, exchanging in-depth views on expanding practical cooperation between the two sides. China-Philippines relations have turned over a new chapter. Both sides should well implement the important consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and firmly grasp the general direction of good-neighborly and friendly cooperation, so that bilateral relations can cleave through the waves along the correct course.

Zhang Gaoli stressed that both countries are neighbors that could not be moved and realizing good-neighborly friendship is the only correct choice for both countries. China and the Philippines enjoy broad prospects in practical cooperation. Upholding the concept of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, China is willing to make joint efforts with the Philippines to enhance political mutual trust, advance high-level exchanges and institutional cooperation, strengthen the docking of development strategies, launch in-depth cooperation in such areas as infrastructure, production capacity, trade, investment and poverty relief through agricultural projects, intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges as well as consolidate the public opinion foundation of bilateral friendship, so as to continuously move forward bilateral relations at a new starting point and benefit the two peoples as well as their descendants.

Rodrigo Duterte said that both as Asian countries, the Philippines and China share similar culture and philosophies. The Philippines appreciates China's sincere assistance to the development of other countries and respect for other countries, and regards the development of its relations with China as a priority of its foreign policy. The Philippines is ready to deepen cooperation in various fields with the Chinese side and welcomes China to further expand investment in the Philippines, so as to facilitate the development of the country.

Before attending the China-Philippines Trade and Investment Forum, Zhang Gaoli held a brief meeting with Rodrigo Duterte. Zhang Gaoli stated that the improvement of bilateral relations conforms to the trend of the times featuring peace and development, as well as the fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries. Economic and trade cooperation, infrastructure and production capacity cooperation are top priorities of bilateral cooperation in the next stage. China is willing to conduct close cooperation with the Philippines and well implement the consensus, plans and major cooperation projects reached by the two sides during this visit to strive for early outcomes.

Rodrigo Duterte noted that the Philippines admires China's development achievements, and stands ready to learn from China's development experience. The Philippines thanks China for its assistance to the development of the Philippines, and hopes to, together with China, well implement the series of consensus reached by the two sides during this visit.
