Li Keqiang Sends Congratulatory Message to Prime Minister António Costa of Portugal over Antonio Guterres's Election as the Next UN Secretary-General

On October 13, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang sent a congratulatory message to Prime Minister António Costa of Portugal over Antonio Guterres’s election as the next UN Secretary-General, who once served as Prime Minister of Portugal and UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Li Keqiang said in the message that Mr. Antonio Guterres has rich experience, outstanding ability, exceptional leadership and great familiarity with international affairs. China believes that Mr. Antonio Guterres and the UN Secretariat will continue to play a major role in safeguarding world peace, promoting common development and pushing forward global cooperation.

Li Keqiang stressed that attaching great importance to developing China-Portugal relations, China is willing to make concerted efforts with Portugal to push for continuous development of bilateral relations.
