Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Ricardo Luna Mendoza of Peru

On October 5, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was paying an official visit to Peru, held talks in Lima with Foreign Minister Ricardo Luna Mendoza of Peru.

Wang Yi expressed that Peru is a country with great influence in Latin America. Since the establishment of China-Peru diplomatic relationship, bilateral relations have enjoyed sound development. Last month, President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski paid a successful visit to China and reached important consensus with President Xi Jinping on developing China-Peru relations, achieving the smooth transition of bilateral relations after the new Peruvian government taking office as well as opening up new development prospect for bilateral relations. The Chinese side is willing to make joint efforts with Peru to maintain high-level exchanges as well as strengthen top-level design for bilateral relations and practical cooperation, so as to constantly inject robust impetus to the development of China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership.

Ricardo Luna Mendoza said that Peru-China comprehensive strategic partnership enjoys smooth development. Both sides constantly deepen cooperation in such fields as politics, diplomacy, economy, trade and international affairs, reaping fruitful outcomes. The Peruvian side is grateful for China's warm and friendly reception to President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski during his visit to China, and eagerly looks forward to President Xi Jinping's attendance at the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting to be held in Peru and state visit to Peru.

Wang Yi pointed out that both sides should well implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, enhance all-round exchanges and cooperation, draft a list of production capacity cooperation projects and support Peru to accelerate its industrialization process. We should launch negotiations on the upgrade of bilateral free trade agreement at a proper time, jointly safeguard the free trade framework, strengthen coordination and cooperation in international affairs and maintain communication and coordination regarding major global topics.

Ricardo Luna Mendoza fully agreed with this, and stressed that the Peruvian side will spare no efforts in pushing forward mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields between both countries.

Both sides also exchanged in-depth views on facilitating the 24th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting to obtain positive outcomes and other international and regional issues of common concern.
