Li Keqiang Meets with Governor General David Johnston of Canada

On the afternoon of September 22, 2016 local time, Premier Li Keqiang met with Governor General David Johnston of Canada at Rideau Hall in Ottawa.

Li Keqiang first conveyed sincere greetings and best wishes from President Xi Jinping to Governor General David Johnston. Li Keqiang noted that Mr. Governor General once paid a successful state visit to China, during which President Xi Jinping and you reached important consensus on promoting China-Canada relations. China appreciates the contribution you have made to the development of bilateral relations.

Li Keqiang pointed out that though far apart in geography, China and Canada share deep friendship. During my visit this time, China and Canada have officially launched the annual dialogue mechanism between Chinese Premier and Canadian Prime Minister, reached consensus on the feasibility study of a potential free trade agreement and signed a series of cooperation documents, which not only deepens political mutual trust, but also pushes forward bilateral practical cooperation. It is believed that with the promotion of the two governments and joint efforts of the two peoples, China-Canada relations will achieve stable and rapid development.

David Johnston congratulated on the new progress yielded from Premier Li Keqiang's visit this time on bilateral cooperation, saying that the visit ushers Canada-China relations into a new chapter. David Johnston noted that Canada and China are good friends and old friends. The launch of the annual dialogue mechanism between Canadian Prime Minister and Chinese Premier, the enhanced bilateral cooperation in extensive areas and the increasingly closer people-to-people and cultural exchanges will bring substantial benefits to the two peoples. It is believed that Canada-China relationship will embrace a brighter prospect.

Mme. Cheng Hong, wife of Premier Li Keqiang, and Mme. Sharon Johnston, wife of Governor General David Johnston were present at the meeting.
