Wang Yi Meets with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini

On the evening of September 18, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in New York with High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini.

Wang Yi said that both sides successfully hosted the annual China-EU Summit not long ago, and reached a spate of new important consensus, injecting new impetus into the development of China-EU relations. China is willing to join hands with the EU to promote the healthy development of China-EU relations, strengthen cooperation in international affairs, and jointly cope with the refugee issue and other global challenges. China hopes that the EU could fulfill the provisions of Article 15 in China's Protocol of Accession to the WTO as scheduled, and properly handle important and sensitive issues concerning China's core interests.

Federica Mogherini said that the EU will take the G20 Hangzhou Summit and annual EU-China Summit as an opportunity to promote a more dynamic development of EU-China relations. China is an important member of the UN. The EU, which is ready to strengthen multilateral cooperation with China, is glad to see a positive role played by China. The EU is intensifying coordination efforts in the fulfillment of Article 15 in China's Protocol of Accession to the WTO, and will not change its stance on the Tibet-related issues.

Both sides also exchanged views on the Afghan issue, the Syrian issue, the Iranian nuclear issue and other topics.
