2016/09/14

On September 14, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held telephone talks with Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan at request.

Wang Yi reiterated China's clear-cut stance on opposition to the nuclear test of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), expressing that China is ready to work together with the UN Security Council members to make necessary response to the new updates on the Korea Peninsula. Under the circumstances that all parties are focusing on the authoritative channel, namely, the UN Security Council, China opposes to take unilateral sanctions which are far from helping to tackle the issue.

Wang Yi said that the efforts for promoting peace talks should not be given up under any circumstances and the current situation increases the urgency and necessity to restart the dialogues.

Wang Yi said that China-Japan relations are at a critical stage of either advancement or drawing back. It is hoped that Japan will do more things that conduce to improving bilateral relations as well as safeguarding the stability at sea.
