Xi Jinping Meets with Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev of the Russian Federation

On September 14, 2016, President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev of the Russian Federation, who was in China to attend the meeting of China-Russia Law-enforcement and Security Cooperation Mechanism and the China-Russia Strategic Security Consultation.

Xi Jinping pointed out that President Vladimir Putin and I held the 3rd meeting within this year on the sidelines of the G20 Hangzhou Summit not long ago, reaching important consensus on further deepening bilateral cooperation. We both agreed that China and Russia should render mutual support on major issues and consolidate political mutual trust. We should carry out sound cooperation in docking the construction of the "Belt and Road” with the construction of Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), deepen convergence of interests, strengthen coordination and cooperation in international and regional affairs, and enhance strategic coordination. No matter how complicated and changeable the international situation and the external environment are, both sides should strive to achieve the goal of common development and revitalization, and safeguard world peace and stability as well as international fairness and justice.

Xi Jinping emphasized that under the current circumstances, it is more urgent and more important to earnestly implement bilateral cooperation in security field. It is hoped that both sides can give play to the current cooperation mechanisms and continuously deepen security consultation and communication in all fields and at all levels.

Nikolai Patrushev expressed that under the guidance of President Vladimir Putin and President Xi Jinping, Russia-China comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination has been raised to the highest level in history. Both sides have maintained close exchanges in various fields and achieved fruitful results from cooperation. Russia and China maintain close communication in major international and regional security issues, as well as in multilateral organizations such as the UN, becoming important stable factors in international affairs. Russia attaches importance to the "Belt and Road" initiative, and is willing to further strengthen strategic coordination and mutually beneficial cooperation with China in a wide range of areas.

Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the Commission of Political and Legal Affairs under the CPC Central Committee Meng Jianzhu, and State Councilor Yang Jiechi attended the meeting.
