Li Keqiang Meets with President of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson

On the afternoon of August 26, 2016, Premier Li Keqiang met at Ziguangge of Zhongnanhai with President of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly Peter Thomson.

Li Keqiang expressed that at present, the world is seeing sluggish economic recovery with increasing terrorism threats, refugee issues and geopolitical risks, dampening the process of and confidence in globalization, as well as posing more uncertain and unstable factors to the international situation. China firmly supports the UN to play a strong role in tackling global threats and challenges as the most universal, representative and authoritative inter-governmental international organization.

Li Keqiang pointed out that this year coincides with the 45th anniversary of the resumption of legitimate seat of the People's Republic of China in the UN. For the past 45 years, China has always devoted to safeguarding the international system with the UN at its core and upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. Under the new situation, we will maintain the authority of the UN as always, support the UN's work, cope with challenges along with other countries, strengthen and improve global governance, promote the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and better realize win-win results shared by the whole world.

Peter Thomson noted that China, as a globally influential country, has played a crucial role in promoting the cause of international peace and sustainable development. Grateful for China's long-term and strong support, the UN looks forward to a new level in its relationship and cooperation with China.
