Zhang Dejiang Meets with State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar

On August 19, 2016, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Zhang Dejiang met with State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar at the Great Hall of the People.

Zhang Dejiang said that China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers and the two peoples share the unique “Paukphaw” friendship. As an important part of China-Myanmar relations, exchanges between legislative bodies are also an important bridge that strengthens the mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples. The NPC continues President Xi Jinping’s neighborhood diplomatic concepts of affinity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness, attaches great importance to its relations with Myanmar’s parliament, intensifies friendly exchanges, carries out experience exchanges and strengthens coordination and cooperation within multilateral parliamentary mechanisms in the region and the world, so as to play a positive role in advancing bilateral practical cooperation and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, enriching the connotation of bilateral relations, and pushing for constant development of China-Myanmar relations.

Aung San Suu Kyi said that Myanmar will continue to pursue a friendly policy towards China, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields between both legislative bodies and others and constantly enhance the traditional friendship and friendly sentiments between the two peoples, so as to push Myanmar-China relations for new progress.
