Wang Yi: African People Hold the Key to Solving African Issues
2016/08/10

On August 10, 2016 local time, when jointly meeting the press with Foreign Minister Amina Mohamed Jibril of Kenya in Nairobi after holding talks, Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that China always believes African people hold the key to solving African issues.

Wang Yi said that China will continue to firmly support people in Africa to independently resolve African issues in an African way and strongly support Kenya and other regional countries as well as the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and other regional organizations to play the leading role in this process. Recently, the IGAD has made positive progress in the peaceful settlement of the South Sudan issue, which China is gratified with. We believe that African people definitely have the wisdom and ability to solve their own issues.

Wang Yi noted that in order to support the efforts of its African brothers, the Chinese side has initiated two regional meetings on promoting the South Sudan peace process. Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan maintains regular communication with the two conflicting parties in the country and Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs has shuttled back and forth nearly 20 times between South Sudan and its neighboring countries. China will continue to give play to its own advantages, more actively coordinate and participate in the peaceful settlement of regional hotspot issues, and make new and greater contribution to realizing peace and stability in Africa.
