Foreign Minister Wang Yi Attends Coordinators' Meeting on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation

On July 29, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the Coordinators' Meeting on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and made a work report.

Wang Yi expressed that during the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit last December, President Xi Jinping expounded the new thoughts and new concepts of China's policy towards Africa, and announced to lift China-Africa relations to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, opening a new era of win-win cooperation and common development between the two sides. With joint efforts made by both sides, the implementation of the summit outcomes is invigorating as political mutual trust has been remarkably enhanced, mutually beneficial cooperation has been comprehensively promoted, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges are unprecedentedly active. Both sides have also actively advanced security cooperation and conducted closer international cooperation.

Wang Yi noted that the standard, scale and results of this Coordinators' Meeting all far exceeded expectation, showing the vitality and energy of the development of China-Africa cooperation. China is willing to closely coordinate with Africa and further consolidate the political foundation of mutual trust and public opinion foundation of friendship between the two peoples with focus on implementing the summit outcomes in a better and faster way, especially on boosting the ten major China-Africa cooperation plans proposed by President Xi Jinping. Both sides should insist on the cooperation consensus including common, intensive, green, secure and open development, so as to let the summit outcomes benefit the 2.4 billion people of China and Africa in the broadest way.

Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane of South Africa said that after the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit, China has actively implemented outcomes from the summit. Other cooperative partners of Africa lag far behind compared with China’s high efficiency. The timely Coordinators' Meeting this time has demonstrated the new level of Africa-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and reflected the positive will of both sides to implement the outcomes. China always stands with Africa regardless of changes in the international situation. China adheres to an Africa-led cooperation model featuring equality and mutual benefit, which agrees with Africa's development goals and shows the common dream of the Chinese and African people. Africa is ready to dock development strategies with China, actively implement the summit's consensus and outcomes, accelerate the construction of "three major networks" and industrialization, and strengthen cooperation in energy mineral and clean energy, so as to promote industrialization and agricultural modernization in Africa.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Integration Moussa Faki Mahamat of Chad, rotating presidency of the African Union, expressed that China harbors sincerity when helping Africa realize peace, stability and development, making historic contributions to the development of Africa. China, as a prior cooperation partner of Africa, attaches importance to its cooperation with Africa, understands African people's concern, and truly teaches African people the skills they need. Africa welcomes China to expand its investment in the continent, and is ready to enhance bilateral practical cooperation in various fields.

Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng comprehensively introduced the implementation progress of new economic and trade measures under the ten major China-Africa cooperation plans.

A total of over 300 people, including over 100 ministerial officials from 53 FOCAC members, representatives from more than 30 member units of the Chinese Follow-up Committee of the FOCAC and African diplomatic envoys to China, attended the meeting.
