Wang Yi: Hype on the Arbitration Case Should Be Cooled Down
2016/07/25

On July 25, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a briefing for Chinese and foreign media after attending the China-ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Vientiane, Laos. When asked about his view on some forces hyping up the South China Sea arbitration case, Wang Yi stressed that the arbitration case has written out a wrong prescription for the South China Sea dispute settlement. The hype should be cooled down now.

Wang Yi expressed that the so-called award rendered recently by the temporary tribunal has given a wrong prescription for the South China Sea dispute settlement. As a result, conflicts and hype on the arbitration are heating up. Certain countries outside the region are especially feverish and unable to bring down their mania, which has not only disrupted the normal order in the region but also damaged the overall interests of regional countries. This phenomenon is causing worry, antipathy and resistance from more countries. A wrong prescription will not cure the disease, but erode the healthy body. Therefore, we urge relevant parties to stop this pointless political manipulation and speculation and cool down such feverish actions as soon as possible so as to restore tranquility in the South China Sea and stability in the region.
