2016/07/24

On July 24, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Vientiane of Laos with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai of Thailand.

Wang Yi expressed that China and Thailand have always maintained high-level exchanges and close communication and coordination. The two countries have jointly safeguarded regional stability and deepened regional cooperation. China appreciates Thailand's efforts in safeguarding the big picture of China-ASEAN relations. Both sides should take the 25th anniversary of the establishment of dialogue relations between China and the ASEAN as an opportunity to promote China-ASEAN strategic partnership to a new level. At present, it is important that both sides make joint efforts to comprehensively and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), and support parties concerned to peacefully resolve disputes through direct dialogue and consultation, so as to maintain the overall peace and stability in the region.

Don Pramudwinai noted that Thailand and China are friendly neighboring countries. Treasuring the sound relationship between the ASEAN and China, Thailand hopes that the ASEAN and China can make joint efforts to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results, and ensure bilateral relations to develop on the correct track. The two sides should continue to comprehensively and effectively implement the DOC, advance consultation on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, and enhance mutual trust on this basis to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability. Thailand welcomes the Philippines and China to resume bilateral dialogues.
